A nonprofit founded by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a four-year, medical degree-granting program that builds on foundational sciences and clinical practices with a compassionate, inclusive, and whole-person approach to care. The program teaches students to support a person’s mental, physical, social, and emotional health and promote resilience, prevent disease, and restore health.

A New Paradigm for Medical Education

The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine aims to create change and improve the health care system by educating future providers from a whole health perspective and reinstating humanity into health care. Graduates of the school will learn how to provide a personalized, proactive, care to patients, around the goal of supporting them in living their best life.

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine aims to bridge the gaps to better care by creating a new pipeline for doctors of the future who are trained in whole health principles. The curriculum will be rooted in self-care, teaching students to support their own well-being with 1:1 health coaching so they can provide personalized, proactive, and whole-person care supporting their patients’ well-being.

Global Health Impact, Rooted in Community

The 154,000 square-foot School of Medicine will be located on 14-acres of green space with a clinic on-site, state-of-the-art simulation center, healing gardens, and the largest green roof in Arkansas, bringing together nature, art, innovation, and well-being to create an inspiring learning environment for students and the community.

The connected campus of Crystal Bridges and the future Alice L. Walton School of Medicine include an innovative building for Heartland Whole Health Institute and Art Bridges Foundation as well. The vision is to provide space for healing and learning – where museum visitors, medical students, and the community can find inspiration in nature, shaping and improving the quality of our lives.

Heartland Whole Health Institute and the School of Medicine are separate nonprofit organizations with one founder and a shared mission of bridging the gaps to better health, together. Through a whole-health centered approach, the two teams will work closely for better health outcomes, reduced health care costs, and to advance how medical education is taught and health care is delivered.

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine and Heartland Whole Health Institute will improve health in the region and serve as a model for health care transformation across the country.
